I just read an article by Donna Gordon Blankinship, of the Associated Press, about dozens of billionaires gathering in Arizona for of all things, a discussion. If you’re like me you probably asked, “What do dozens of American billionaires talk about when they get together?”
According to Ms. Blankinship, “Their topic this week was of course money; not how to make it, but how to give it away.” I don’t know about you but I found that interesting and I am amazed that Mr. Buffett the billionaire organizer of the event was able to pull it through.
It has been interesting for me to watch this unfold because a few years ago Mr. Buffett gave away a few billion dollars to another billionaire’s foundation. Amazingly he made the money back a few years later.
Then he boldly announced that he was going to give away at least ½ of his wealth to charity and gave a challenge to other billionaires to make a pledge to do the same for the goodwill of humanity and the world.
Well, he was successful in his quest and you read it, “Billionaires gather in Arizona to discuss giving, meet each other, compare notes, eat and laugh.” Isn’t that amazing?
For whatever reason, “The media was banned from Thursday's first meeting of the group that has accepted the giving challenge by Buffett and his friend Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates. Since last June, 69 individuals or couples have made the giving pledge.” You can read the full original story at, “Billionaires gather inArizona to discuss giving.”
